Dr. Sam Subramanian is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained vitreoretinal surgeon dedicated to preserving and restoring sight for patients with diseases of the retina and vitreous. He specializes in the medical and surgical management of conditions including retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and other complex retinal disorders.
Dr. Subramanian earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his ophthalmology residency at Ascension Macomb-Oakland Hospital in Michigan. He went on to complete advanced fellowship training in vitreoretinal surgery at Loma Linda University in California and the Gulf Coast Eye Institute in Texas. He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
Before devoting his career to retinal care, Dr. Subramanian proudly served as a physician in the United States Army, where he was responsible for the health of thousands of soldiers at posts across the U.S. and overseas. His service earned him multiple Army Commendations and Achievement Medals, an experience that shaped his commitment to leadership, teamwork, and putting patients first.
Dr. Subramanian is an active contributor to ophthalmic research, with peer-reviewed publications in leading journals such as Retina and Ophthalmology, and presentations at national and international meetings including ARVO. He is a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
